Brunei Fencers Off to Shanghai


10 participants and 4 supervisors from the Brunei Darussalam Fencing Federation departed from Berakas International Airport last Monday for Shanghai to participate in the 2007 Asian Fencing Championships to be held in September at Nantong City, Jiangsu Province.

In 2006, members of the team returned from the 8th SouthEast Asian Fencing Championship in Manila with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. In Nantong, they will undergo training; and ensuing games is in preparation for the upcoming 24th SEA Games to be held in Thailand.

Run and Gun Shoot


After being chased away by some rent-a-cops, we decided to make do with a shoot beside the Brunei river, what with ready made umbrella’s at our disposal.

Strobist Info: One SB-24 fired into a large umbrella like structure from up top, held by Jim747, firing at 1/8, and one SB-600 firing direct at 1/64. Gelled for Tungsten, but decided to go with black and white.

When death comes calling, so does Oscar the cat

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (AP) — Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours.

His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means the patient has less than four hours to live.

“He doesn’t make too many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die,” Dr. David Dosa said in an interview. He describes the phenomenon in a poignant essay in Thursday’s issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
